Dr. Harsha Dehejla, who lives in Ottowa, Canada, is an outstanding connoisseur of both aesthetic and intellectual beauty with Professor Makarand Paranjape edited this issue. Saundarya is related perhaps to all the rasas, the essential aspects or energie that define a set of energies and moods. Saundarya, habitually translated as beauty is important as a key ingredient in much of traditional art, craft and poety. Dr. Karan singh, Dr. Geeti Sen, Reba Som, Richard Lannoy, Rosemary Crill, Arpana Caur and Haku Shah have all contributed seminal articles on the idea of beauty, Saundarya. This issue of Evam discusses how such ideas of beauty relate both to the Indian past and its present. It makes a valuable and interesting contribution to the enduring tradition of Indian aesthetics. The second issue of Evam was released on 2nd February 2003 at the India International Centre. The volume was launched by leading jurist and scholar, Dr. L.M. Singhvi, with Dr. Kamla chowdhry, Chair, Samvad India Foundation, The meeting was attended by well-known people from the world of arts and scholarship including Padma Vibhushan Sushri Sonal Mansingh, Professor B. Rajan Professor Chandra Rajan, Professor Indra Nath Chaudhuri, Professor Harsha V.
