This volume is devoted to the idea of Saundarya: the perception and practice of beauty in India. Dr. Harsha Dehejia, who lives in Ottowa Canada, is an outstanding connoisseur of both aesthetic and intellectual beauty together with Professor Makarand Paranjape edited this issue. Saundarya is related perhaps to all the rasas, thye essential aspects or energies that define a sent of energies and moods. Saundarya, habitually translated as beauty is important as a key ingredient in much of trditional art, craft and poetry. Dr. Karan Singh, Dr. Geeti Sen, Reba Som, Richard Lannoy, Rosemary Crill, Arpana Caur and Haku Shah have all contributed seminal articles on the idea of beauty, saundarya. This issue of Evam discusses how such ideas of beauty relate both to the Indian past and its present. It makes a valuable and interesting contribution to the enduring traditions of Indian aesthetics. The second issue of Evam was released on 2nd February 2003 at the India International Centre. The volume was launched by leading jurist and scholar, Dr. L.M.
